Charles Rennie Mackintosh Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, Water color painter, b. 1868 - d. 1928

Artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh, a pioneer in the Arts and Crafts and Scottish Art Nouveau movements, was an architect, designer, and watercolor painter. Born in 1868, Mackintosh began an architectural apprenticeship at age 16 while also taking evening lessons at the Glasgow School of Art. His building and furniture designs were meticulously detailed, but the start of World War I dampened his career prospects.

A consummate artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh dedicated himself in 1914 to watercolor instead. With flowers being their most common subjects, paintings by Charles Rennie Mackintosh exhibit the same delicate lines of his draft work. Sadly, he only achieved recognition posthumously, and the simplicity of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's furniture designs appeal greatly to modern furniture makers. Collectors can find showstopping vintage furniture for sale at auction and online when looking for prized pieces.
