He was classically trained at Art Center College in Pasanda, California. Following the great sculptural masters such as Auguste Rodin and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, he adds a contemporary element to his figural creations. His ability to focus on how the body can be manipulated has led to his work with Cirque du Soleil, MGM, and the Olympic Games. His process involves making a clay "sketch" or maquette of his work. These quarter-size models are the basis for his half life to life-size works. He then utilizes the famously painstaking Lost Wax method in which his work will become first a wax model and then a bronze sculpture.

Richard MacDonald is a figurative artist known for his bronze sculptures and work with the Cirque du Soleil. MacDonald studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He had a successful career as an illustrator before he turned to sculpture. His work can be found in the corporate collections of AT&T and IBM, among others, as well as many significant private collections. Property from a Private Collection, Hilton Head Island, SC Description: Richard MacDonald, (American, b. 1946), Samburu, Bronze, signed and dated 'R. MacDonald', dated '96', titled 'Samburu', and numbered '50/75' on back near base, depicting the bust of a cheetah; on stepped marble base. Richard MacDonald is a figurative artist known for his bronze sculptures and work with the Cirque du Soleil. MacDonald studied at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He had a successful career as an illustrator before he turned to sculpture. His work can be found in the corporate collections of AT&T and IBM, among others, as well as many significant private collections. He has completed several notable commissions, including The Flair for the 1996 Summer Olympics. Measurements: Height: of bust 17 1/4 in. x Width: 11 1/2 in. x Depth: 14 1/2 in.
