      Est: €70,000 - €80,000

RAFA MACARRÓN (Madrid, 1981). "Veca", 2015. Paper mache and paint. Unique piece. Signed, dated and titled on the base. Provenance: Aurora Vigil Gallery. Presents a small crack in the tail. Measurements: 75 x 100 x 24 cm. In this sculpture Macarrón refers in a personal way to his dog, capturing its essence from its naive idiosyncrasy. In this synthetic image of stylized forms and intense color, the artist resorts to lines inspired in a harmonic way in nature, thus extolling forms with which he creates a new concept that starts from an imaginary world of vitality and joy. The representation of his dog as the protagonist of his work is not isolated, since in the exhibition "Quince", held at the Cac in Malaga in 2021, there were several sculptures starring a canine. In addition, a large bronze sculpture entitled "Perro I" can be found on Estepona's seafront promenade. However, in this particular case the sculpture stands out from the others due to the papier-mâché technique and its intense fuchsia pink coloring, which provides great expressiveness. Rafa Macarrón is one of the young Spanish artists with the greatest international projection at present. His painting brings into play wide and neutral spaces, with intense and vivid colors, through which unstable characters with fragile limbs and huge heads walk. In this way, he creates scenes that do not dispense with the figurative world, but that immerse the viewer in a dreamlike environment, full of lyricism. The artist recognizes that he is influenced by artists such as Dubuffet, Fraile, Matta or Quirós, as well as by the comics and Spanish painting of the 50s and 60s. His exhibition career began in 2006, with a solo show at the Sala Príncipe Sport in Madrid, entitled Trabubus. Since then he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in national and international centers. Since 2008 he has also participated, with notable success, in numerous international art fairs, such as Art Madrid, Art Valencia, Scope Basel, the Young Art Taipei, ARCO Madrid, Art Miami - Aqua, Art Lima, Context New York, Berliner Liste, and others... He has received several awards, such as the BMW Painting Prize in 2010 or the Best Artist Arco Award in 2013. His work is preserved in important collections and museums, such as the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in New York, the BMW Foundation in Spain, the Vivanco Foundation in La Rioja, or the Pilar Citoler collection.

      Est: €200,000 - €220,000

RAFA MACARRÓN (Madrid, 1981). "Operación Limpieza", 2010. Mixed media (collage and oil) on canvas with methacrylate urn. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Size: 140 x 240 x 4 cm. Under a cobalt blue sky dotted with stars, a filiform character with a big head directs a water hose over a group of strange creatures, some of which resemble elephants, dogs and giraffes. The staged metropolitan allegory is evident, with the fauna of outsiders, night owls and vagrants being sprayed by some municipal guard on one of his "cleaning" rounds. Rafa Macarrón's style is unique and unmistakable: distorted bodies, delicate anatomical shapes, colours applied on flat surfaces with almost fluorescent intensities, dreamlike stagings but rooted in everyday reality... All of this is reflected in this suggestive composition. The work shows Macarrón's singular universe, characterised by the creation of dreamlike images through a language influenced by the world of comics, Spanish painting of the 50s and 60s, the work of Dubuffet, Fraile, Matta and Quirós. Rafa Macarrón is one of the young Spanish artists with the greatest international projection at present. His painting brings into play wide, neutral spaces, with intense, vivid colours, through which unstable characters, with fragile limbs and enormous heads, pass. Est: €240,000 - €250,000

RAFA MACARRÓN (Madrid, 1981). "Day at the beach", 2014. Mixed media on canvas. Enclosed certificate of authenticity issued by the Van Dyck Gallery (Gijón). It has a label on the back of the Van Dyck Gallery (Gijón). Measurements: 195 x 260 cm. The beach conceived as a great stage was a relevant resource in Macarrón's work during 2013 and 2014, as his works "Un día de playa (2013), "Precioso día (2014)" or "Preciosa noche (2014)" testify. The idea of the beach as a context became so popular in his artistic production that he held an exhibition in 2021 at the Nave Salinas Foundation (Ibiza) devoted exclusively to a series of works whose common ground was based on the representation of the beach. These works, like the present one, are based on a large vertical format that accommodates a multiplicity of characters that inhabit the place from a perspective of leisure and fun. In fact, in the newspaper Fuera de Serie, the author himself stated "There are characters of great immensity, crowded beaches, crowds, characters with hope and joy, all anonymous and with frenetic energy". The large-format piece is a synthesis of Macarrón's style, in it we can appreciate a space conceived from a theatrical point of view, but in this case the work stands out for its singularity with respect to the series dedicated to the beach, as Macarrón presents us with two parallel worlds. In one of them, two characters seem to glimpse the crowded beach from a distance, attentive with their gaze to what is happening in the distance, while on the beach their iconic figures enjoy themselves oblivious to reality. Rafa Macarrón is one of the young Spanish artists with the greatest international projection at present. His painting brings into play wide, neutral spaces, with intense, vivid colours, through which unstable characters, with fragile limbs and enormous heads, pass. In this way, he creates scenes which do not dispense with the figurative world, but which immerse the spectator in a dreamlike environment, full of lyricism. In this way, he creates scenes which do not dispense with the figurative world, but which immerse the spectator in a dreamlike environment, full of lyricism. The artist acknowledges that he is influenced by artists such as Dubuffet, Fraile, Matta and Quirós, as well as by comic strips and Spanish painting of the 1950s and 1960s. His exhibition career began in 2006, with a solo show at the Sala Príncipe Sport in Madrid, entitled Trabubus. Since then he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in national and international centres. Since 2008 he has also participated, with notable success, in numerous international art fairs, such as Art Madrid, Art Valencia, Scope Basel, Young Art Taipei, ARCO Madrid, Art Miami - Aqua, Art Lima, Context New York, Berliner Liste, and others... He has received several awards, such as the BMW Painting Prize in 2010 or the Best Artist Arco Award in 2013. His work is held in important collections and museums, such as the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in New York, the BMW Foundation in Spain, the Vivanco Foundation in La Rioja, and the Pilar Citoler Collection.

RAFA MACARRÓN (Madrid, 1981). "Untitled", 2012. Mixed media on canvas. With methacrylate protector. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Size: 195 x 195 cm; 197 x 197 cm (frame). Going beyond the purely pictorial, Macarrón displays in this large work his unique and personal universe. A domestic space dominated by colour is inhabited by characters who are based on a distorted reality that is committed to the lightness and subtlety of anatomical forms. This work belongs to an artistic period of transition for the artist, which can be seen in the way he conceives the characters, especially in the figure of the dog, which is in the background. The painting comes into contact with three-dimensionality, which is reflected in the way in which some of the eyes of the protagonists have been conceived, which acquire volume, the play of textures where the pigment mixes with the sand, and in the use of fluorescent paint. The large-format piece is a synthesis of Macarrón's style, in which we can appreciate a space conceived from a theatrical point of view with a striped floor, a feature that can be seen in many of his paintings and which alludes to the idea of play and fantasy. The work shows Macarrón's unique universe, characterised by the creation of dreamlike images through a language influenced by the world of comics, Spanish painting of the 50s and 60s, the work of Dubuffet, Fraile, Matta and Quirós. 寵物 Pets 簽名右下: RM 18 Signed lower right RM and dated 2018 “我不試圖將自己歸屬於任何類別或團體,繪畫和藝術只是我從小就在做的事情,我想一直用自己的語言做下去。” "I don't try to attribute myself into any category or group, painting and art are just things I have been doing since I was a child, and I want to keep doing it in my own language." Rafa Macarron Rafa Macarron is an artist from Madrid, Spain, born in 1981. Macarron has been immersed in the artistic atmosphere since childhood, his parents are architects and also art collectors. He has been learning to paint since he was 4 years old, holding paint brushes all day long, his textbooks are painted full with his childhood imagination. He has visited the studios of well-known artists such as Spanish artist Juan Barjola. Barjola recognized Macarron's talent for painting and encouraged him to create continuously. Therefore Macarron has never had systematic artistic training. He treated art as a hobby and became a cyclist and a physiotherapist, these two occupations have played an important role in his future creations. "Pet" was created in 2018, the entire work has charming colours and harmonious composition. The rich and vibrant bright yellow covers the whole picture. The artist boldly deforms the characters under his brushes, both mankind and pet (animals) look exaggerated and weird yet interesting, distorted faces, bulbous eyes, slender limbs, but like cartoon people, with a pair of big hands with countless fingers. The unrestrained imagination of the artist creates a naive and dreamy universe, which turns the moments of everyday life into fantasy, refreshing and full of wonder. "I am an optimist, I hope to use my works to tell everyone that in any ordinary moments, there are also joys that are worth cherishing."

異世界 Diferente mundo 簽名題識右下:RM 19 Diferente mundo Initialed lower right RM, titled Diferente mundo and dated 19 拉法. Rafa Macarrón was born with the birth name Rafael Macarrón Jaqueti. Born in Madrid in 1981, Macarrón comes from a family of many generations of artists. Both of his parents were architects and art collectors who have taught Macarrón to appreciate art and look at artworks with a critical eye. Upon high school graduation, he became a professional cyclist. In terms of character expression, Macarrón has greatly benefited from his experience as a physiotherapist and knowledge about anatomy, human physiology and sports. In 2006, the 25-year-old Macarrón decided to become a full-time artist. In response to an interview question about his art inspirations, Macarrón answered, “I have had a very direct relationship with the Spanish painting, I have practically grown up in the Prado Museum, the best art gallery in the world. I am very proud to be part of Spanish painting tradition. Goya’s black paintings have always moved me. Goya is the best painter in the world; and of course Las Meninas by Velázquez, which I consider the best work. But it all started with Picasso. I fell in love with his work in Paris, in his museum. I was four years old and, from that precise moment, I haven't stopped drawing.” His parents and siblings’ profession as architects has led him to pay attention to image structure. He tests out characters through deformation, creating characters with different souls in an expressionist way. Looking magical and surreal in their own worlds, these lonely characters are exactly what make up Macarrón’s Universe. Macarrón extracts information from everyday life and puts them into his paintings. Under his willpower, the paintings are a compilation of his autobiography that captures all aspects of life–including self experiences, childhood memories, and daily observations. With unique character styles and an impressive atmosphere, Macarrón’s contemporary group portraits are reminiscent of the works by classic art masters Jheronimus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel. The artist created a variety of characters that constantly evolved over the years, finally reaching their unique styles today. Their regeneration demonstrates the hope for new life through elongated or enlarged heads and slim limbs. In particular, Macarrón’s characters wear brightly colored nail polish regardless of their genders. The strange postures are truly fascinating. The artist recalls being inspired by a French woman he saw in Montparnasse Paris when he was five years old. The vivid impression has led him to paint all characters with vibrantly colored nail polish. The depiction of hands is undoubtedly the most eye-catching element in Macarrón’s paintings. The artist believes that humans express emotions through their eyes and hands. Hence the hands can be expressively drawn to attract viewers’ attention. Looking at Macarrón’s 2019 large oil painting Diferente Mundo as an example, the artist used paper collage, acrylic paint, and other materials to create a square-shaped green space. The richly layered background colors and lightly coated paints symbolized an ethereal atmosphere that combined with well-textured group portraits to form a profoundly magical universe. The artist playfully experimented with the spatial structure and illusion. Some of the artist’s multidimensional spaces resembled fictional rooms, while others look like swimming pools, beaches, unknown mountains, and planets with fantastical elements such as clouds, rainwater, towers, long stairs, and aircrafts. The interactions and gestures between unique characters and animals, and their puzzling eyes expressing tenderness, naivety, and desires are examples of Macarrón’s depiction of smooth, magical, yet in-depth paintings from his personal experiences. As opposed to the barren pessimism of existentialism, these thought-provoking and self-reflective contemporary fable paintings are truly precious in our era. Macarrón has won several prizes including the BMW Painting Award in 2010. Macarrón held his first museum exhibition at the Contemporary Art Center of Malga in March 2021. His works are collected by several foundations and museums.

In this sculpture Macarrón refers in a personal way to his dog, capturing its essence from its naïve idiosyncrasy. In this synthetic image of stylised forms and intense colour, the artist resorts to lines inspired in a harmonious way by nature, thus extolling forms with which he creates a new concept based on an imaginary world of vitality and joy. The representation of his dog as the protagonist of his work is not isolated, as in the exhibition Quince held at the Cac in Malaga in 2021, there were several sculptures featuring a dog, as well as a large bronze sculpture entitled "Perro I", which can be found on the Estepona promenade. However, in this particular case the sculpture stands out from the others, due to the technique used and the intense colouring which gives it great expressiveness. Rafa Macarrón is one of the young Spanish artists with the greatest international projection at present. His painting brings into play wide, neutral spaces, with intense, vivid colours, through which unstable characters with fragile limbs and enormous heads walk.
