Gätke, Heinrich Carl Ludwig 1814 Pritzwalk - 1897

      Est: €3,500 - €4,000

Gätke, Heinrich Carl Ludwig 1814 Pritzwalk - 1897 Helgoland 2 Paintings with Fishers by the Coast, presumably off Helgoland. Each: Signed and dated lower right: Heinrich Gätke 1840. Oil on canvas. Each 34 x 54cm. Framed. Verso: A label with a reference to a letter from Theodor Fontanes, the painter's cousin. Gätke was granted citizenship in Helgoland through marriage in 1841. He moved from Cuxhaven to the island and from then on began to concentrate on the typical motifs of Helgoland: Seascapes and genre scenes. The artist and cousin of the poet Theodor Fontane was originally taught in Berlin, probably by Karl Blechen. However, it was the Düsseldorfer Malerschule which was to have the most influence on his work, and it was through them that he discovered his penchant for seascapes and marine themes. Gätke, Heinrich Carl Ludwig 1814 Pritzwalk - 1897 Helgoland 2 Gemälde mit Fischern an der Küste, vermutlich Helgoland. Jeweils: Signiert und datiert unten rechts: Heinrich Gätke 1840. Öl auf Leinwand. Jeweils 34 x 54cm. Rahmen.
