Vue de la galerie de Schalbet prise du côté de l'Italie. Paris, Didot l'Aîné, 1811. Aquatinte aquarellée, 19,4 x 28,5 cm, encadrée (accident au verre). Gravure extraite de l'album Voyage pittoresque de Genève à Milan par la route du Simplon. Mathias Gabriel Lory (Berne 1784 – 1846) s’est formé principalement aux côtés de son père mais bénéficia aussi des conseils du peintre paysagiste Maximilien de Meuron à Neuchâtel. Il partagea ensuite son activité entre Berne et Neuchâtel, avec des séjours à Berlin (il y enseigna le dessin) et à Nice (pour raison de santé). Son style est assez proche de son père (il arrive qu’on ne puisse pas attribuer une œuvre avec certitude), mais sa représentation du paysage est plus réaliste. Il est considéré comme un des meilleurs peintres des Alpes entre Maximilien de Meuron et Alexandre Calame. L’atelier des Lory a produit une grande quantité d’estampes vendues dans toute l’Europe. On joint : - HOSTEIN (Édouard) : Vue des Alpes bernoises près du point culminant. Simplon. Genève, Charbulliez et Fick, 1837. Vue lithographiée par Engelmann et aquarellée, 20 x 28 cm, encadrée. Gravure extraite des Souvenirs des travaux du Simplon par Robert Céard (planche n°5). Salissures. Édouard Hostein (1804-1889) est un peintre, dessinateur et lithographe français. Il a notamment contribué à l'illustration des Voyages pittoresques et romantiques dans l'ancienne France du baron Taylor. - PLEPP (Joseph) : Abbildung des Gletschers im Grindelwald in der Herschaft Bern. An excellent copy in a fine and elegant binding and complete with all the coloured plates. The lovely views are taken from those of Lory, to whom some also attribute the text, and depict, among others, the locations of St. Moritz, Sion, Simplan and Milan. 12mo (123 x 85mm). Half-title, colour vignette on title, 12 watercolour plates protected by tissue paper (occasional light browning and some spotting). Long grain red morocco within uniform case, both richly decorated with gilt phytomorphic devices on covers and spine, gilt edges (light rubbing to corners of case). Compared to the SBN collation, the final two leaves appear to be missing, but the text is apparently complete and corresponds to the digitized copy of the University of Lausanne. Provenance: EG - EK (both stamps on endpaper). IT [LORY, Gabriel (1784-1846, illustratore da cui sono tratte le tavole) - MALO, Charles] - Le Simplon. Promenade pittoresque de Genève à Milan. Parigi: Jules Didot, [1824]. Ottima copia in bella legatura e completa di tutte le tavole a colori. Le graziosissime vedute sono tratte da quelle dei Lory, a cui alcuni attribuiscono anche il testo, e raffigurano, tra le altre, le località di St. Moritz, Sion, Sempione, Milano. 12mo (123 x 85mm). Occhiello, vignetta a colori al frontespizio, 12 tavole acquerellate protette da velina (occasionali lievi bruniture e sporadiche fioriture). Marocchino rosso a grana lunga entro custodia omogenea, su entrambi ricchi decori fitomorfi in oro ai piatti e al dorso del volume, tagli dorati (lievi difetti agli angoli della custodia). Rispetto alla collazione di SBN sembrerebbero mancare le ultime due carte, ma il testo è all'apparenza completo e corrisponde all'esemplare digitalizzato dell'Università di Losanna.
