(18) ⁂ The first is a scarce satire on the marriage of Charles, Viscount Maynard, to Nancy Parsons. Parsons (c.1735-1814) had eloped to the West Indies with a Captain Horton, on her return to England she became a celebrated courtesan and the mistress of both the Duke of Dorset and the Duke of Grafton, and finally settled down with Maynard despite being several years his senior. ESTC records 5 UK copies. The second was first published in 1699 under the name Philander Misiatrus; it is sometimes wrongly attributed to Swift. The third is a satirical attack on Swift by either Burnet or Steele.

      The only resident peer in late colonial America who administered his vast Northern Neck Proprietary from his wilderness estate at Greenway Court, Virginia (1693-1781). Vellum manuscript DS, signed “Fairfax,” one page, 11.75 x 9.5, August 3, 1752. As proprietor of the northern neck of Virginia, Fairfax grants 227 acres to James Hayworth a "Lott of Land on great Spring Branch of Back Creek"." In very good to fine condition, with overall creasing, and some loss to the top right edge.

Macaulay [2] Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay, PC (25 October 1800 - 28 December 1859) was a British historian and Whig politician. His books on British history are considered literary masterpieces.
