Image size: 24 x 16 cm Very good condition In 2005, John Loengard was identified by the American Photo magazine as 'One of the 100 most influential people in photography'; his works fetch up to €5,300 at international auctions The present press print depicts John F. Kennedy and Nelson Rockefeller at the famous annual black-tie dinner sponsored by Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation. The charity dinner regularly raised millions of dollars for healthcare causes and had reached its zenith as 'a ritual of American politics' by 1960. The gelatin silver print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: John Loengard LIFE MAGAZINE © Time Inc.' on verso. It is also inscribed and dated with pen and pencil 'JFK; Nelson Rockefeller Al. Smith dinner 1959'. The print is in very good condition considering its age; the surface of the photo paper is minimally damaged in the lower right area. The image size is 24 x 16 cm and the size of the sheet is 25.5 x 20.5 cm. John Loengard (b. 1934) The American photographer John Loengard was born in New York. He was first commissioned by LIFE magazine in 1956, when he was still a student at Harvard and asked to document a freighter run aground on Cape Cod. He was active as a LIFE magazine photo journalist until 1972 and produced a number of successful photo stories such as an essay about Georgia O'Keeffe. Later, Loengard became a picture editor of LIFE Special Reports and People magazine. In 1978, Loengard was instrumental in the rebirth of a monthly publication of LIFE magazine and worked as its picture editor until 1987. John Loengard has been the author of nine books, so far.
