    JOSEP LLORENS ARTIGAS (Barcelona, 1892-1980). Vase, 1935. Glazed ceramic. Signed and dated on the base. Measurements: 20 cm. (height) x 16 cm. (diameter). Ceramist and art critic, Josep Llorens Artigas was formed in the School of the Fish market, extending his studies in the Artistic Circle of Sant Lluc and in the Superior School of Beautiful Trades of Frances d'Assis Gali, place in which he knew Joan Miró. Settled in 1924 in the city of Paris, during his training he met important ceramists such as Delaherche (1857-1940), pioneer of the Art Nouveau style in France, developing an oriental style, following a very egalitarian aesthetic throughout his production, characterized by formal purification and renewing glazes and colors. Considered one of the main promoters of artistic ceramics during the 1930s, Llorens Artigas innovated in the style, moving away from the neo-historicist tastes that prevailed at the time and thus configuring a work valued for its material and technical qualities. Specifically, the piece presented here is made of stoneware with a green cover with slight chromatic changes that veer around the greens. The formal purity that characterizes the work of Llorens is understood in the rounded volumes and in its smooth and polished surface, full of brightness and nuances.

    JOSEP SALA LLORENS (Barcelona, 1928 - 2010). "Landscape". Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner. Measurements: 26 x 46 cm; 56 x 72 cm (frame). Josep Sala studied technical studies at the Escuela Industrial and La Lonja, both in Barcelona. He began his career in advertising design, winning several awards. He made his individual debut in 1950 in the Barcelona gallery El Jardín, but it was not until 1975 when he dedicated himself completely to painting. Since then he held personal exhibitions in prominent galleries in Madrid, Girona, Bilbao, Sitges, Alcoy, Valencia, Reus and Barcelona. He also participated in numerous international exhibitions in the United States, Japan, France, Belgium and Portugal. He has taken part in traveling exhibitions such as the one organized by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1993, the one of the Pinacoteca Municipal Llegat Francesc Galí in 1992, and in "Homage for Catalonia" in 2000. In 1994, the 22nd edition of the Salon de Mayo in Barcelona was dedicated to Josep Sala as a tribute.
