Marvin Lipofsky Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, b. 1938 - d. 2016

Marvin Lipofsky holds both an M.S. and M.F.A. degrees from the University of Wisconsin.
Lipofsky is a senior figure in the American studio glass movement. He was among the first of Harvey K. Littleton’s students at the University of Wisconsin, when hot glass-working moved from the factory into the artist’s studio. Lipofsky introduced glass to the curriculum of the University of California, Berkeley. He continued to teach there until 1972. Between 1967 and 1987 he also headed the glass department at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Lipofsky’s works are organic in form resembling tissues, bladders, flesh, shells and mammiform shapes. He engages master glass blowers abroad for shaping forms. Returning with these works to the U.S. he then cuts and sandblasts the works to perfect his ideas. His influence on the world of contemporary glass is immeasurable.
