Herbert Berthold Libiszewski (1897-1985) - Amérique Afrique, Magie Noire, par Paul Morand. 1928. 61x47cm. Affiche originale, lithographie, entoilée. Condition A. Un saxophoniste et une danseuse se font face. La légende dit que l'auteur se serait inspiré de Joséphine Baker pour son personnage de la danseuse Congo. L'affichiste évoque dans cette oeuvre très Art Déco, une des huit nouvelles qui composent le livre, dans laquelle une jeune danseuse est initiée aux rites vaudoues dans le New York et Harlem du début du siècle. L'auteur parcourt le monde de la "négritude", débutant par Haïti, continuant aux États-Unis et se terminant en Afrique Noire, du Soudan au Mali et du Sénégal au Liberia, jusqu'au « Boeuf sur le toit »

LIBIS (HERBERT BERTHOLD LIBISZEWSKI, 1897-1985) LA RAQUETTE DARSONVAL. 1932. 24½x16¼ inches, 62¼x41¼ cm. Ateliers Artis, [Paris]. Condition B: extensive replaced losses in margins and corners; repaired tears, creases and darkening at edges; minor creases in image. Around 1930, tennis rackets named after Henri Darsonval were manufactured by the Paris firm of Louvet & Darsonval. When professional tennis player and Sporting Club de Paris instructor Henri Darsonval transitioned from playing to teaching, one of his main students was Frenchman René Lacoste. Not only did Lacoste invent the first ball-throwing machine (to avoid needing Darsonval's coaching any further), and patent the first tubular steel tennis racket, but his longest-standing claim to fame may be his iconic Lacoste tennis shirt. Bearing the crocodile logo as an homage to his nickname, Lacoste polo shirts represented a transition to the modern tennis wardrobe.

Rochers de Naye is a mountain in the Bernese Alps above Montreux, from where the Chemin de Fer Montreux-Glion-Rochers-de-Naye-an electric rack and pinion railway that links the places mentioned in its title-leads to its peak. Rather than recreate the mountain or the train, Libiszewski smartly chooses to trot out a welcoming blonde skier as a calling card for the Swiss transport line with a chilling view of the valley and the French Alps behind her. After studies in Germany and Switzerland, Libiszewski moved to Paris in 1921 where he worked as a fashion designer, illustrator and display decorator.
