    LI GENG (b.1950), ink on paper, 'Symphony by Mahler, Chapter 6', signed and dated 2018, 68 x 68cm, unframed Note: Li Geng was influenced by the teachings of his father Li Keran from an early age. His father, also an artist, is renowned for grand landscape paintings, so Li Geng’s abstract and peotic compositions are in stark contrast to his father’s. The present painting from the Mahler Symphonies” series is part of Li’s tribute to the early 20th century Austrian composer Gustav Mahler (1860 - 1911), with whom the artist feels great kinship. Mahler was greatly inspired by poetry of some of the greatest Tang dynasty poets Li Bai, Meng Haoran, and Qian Qi, and his popular symphony Das Lied Von Der Erde (Song of the Earth) draws inspiration directly from the beauty and transience of their poetry. Li Geng currently teaches painting at the Kyoto University of Art and Design. The “Mahler Symphonies” is an ongoing series of monochromatic ink wash paintings created while experiencing the epic orchestral masterpieces of his favourite composer. 李庚（1950-）馬勒《第六交響曲》
