Ht ; 25 cm. Largeur : 16 cm. B.E. Epoque Second Empire. Biographie : Edgar Ney Officier de hussards, il est l'un des fils du Maréchal NEY. Officier d'ordonnance de Louis-Napoléon, il est élu représentant de la Charente-Inférieure à la Législative et deviendra sénateur du Second Empire en 1859. Aide de camp de l’empereur Napoléon III en 1852, il est nommé grand veneur en 1865 Prisonnier de guerre le 2 septembre 1870, il accompagne l’empereur Napoléon III en captivité.

            Signed LeQuesne Bronze Sculpture. Figure of a maiden seated on a boulder with a spilled basket of grapes on the left side and a putti standing to the right; the woman looks up with her hands above her head playing castanets and the putti holds a mallet preparing to strike a drum. Has an overall gilt finish, on an oval black marble base, signed on the front LeQuesne. This was at one point turned into a lamp and the attachment holes are evident on the back of the sculpture. 17.5 in. high x 14 in. wide x 7.5 in. deep.

LEQUESNE, E.L. (Eugène Louis Lequesne, 1815-1887), Paris, Ende 19. Jh. Brünierte Bronze. Auf Weinbeutel tanzender und musizierender Faun mit Lendenschutz aus Efeu, zu seinen Füssen Thysusstab, Tambourin, Trauben und Cimbeln auf Rundsockel. Sign. E. LEQUESNE. Giesserstempel SUSSE FRERES. Riss in der linken Kniekehle. H 27 cm. Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Westschweiz. E. Le Quèsne schloss sein Jura-Studium 1841 ab und trat danach in die Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris ein. Später verbrachte er ein Studienjahr in Italien, wo er seine ersten Bronzen für den 'Salon' schuf. 1844 erhielt er den 'Grand Prix de la Sculpture' und zog daraufhin für fünf Jahre nach Rom, was sein Schaffen erheblich beeinflusste - er liess sich von Skulpturen aus der Antike inspirieren. Zudem schuf er eine Vielzahl von Büsten und führte grosse Aufträge in der französischen Metropole aus, wie z.B. der Fronton des Pavillon Mollien im Louvre, Arbeiten an der Opéra de Paris, an der Gare du Nord und im Palais de Justice die Nordfassade.
