He also realised Barre's gravestone in 1887.Leofanti exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1864 in painting section, where he gained an honourable distinction. From 1874, Leofanti abandonned little by little painting to dedicate himself exclusively to sculpture. In 1882, he exhibited Pro Patria Mori, a bas-relief rewarded with a merit. In 1886 he definitively settled in Paris. As many of 19th century artists, Leofanti was inspired by literature to find the subjects of his art works. In 1862, he realised this painting Roger delivering Angelique, from the 16th century epic novel Roland le Furieux wrote by the Italian poet Ludovico Ariosto known as The Arioste. This specific subject has been represented by many artists during the 19th century, for exemple by Ingres, whose painting is now kept in the Louvre Museum.
