The beautiful appearance of the young woman with an ivy wreath in her hair corresponds to the fine material of the Carrara marble. The face was executed with a fascinating love to detail, and also the elaborate updo and the sculpted drapery testify to Lazzerini's great artistic skill. The bust bears the incised signature 'Prof. Pietro Lazzerini' on the reverse. It is overall in good condition with a loss to the upper left shoulder. The height of the bust is about 46 cm. Pietro Lazzerini (1842-1918) Pietro Lazzerini came from a family of sculptors who ran a workshop in Carrara from 1670 until 1942. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and then went back to Carrara. In 1869, he moved to Berlin, where he devoted himself to portraiture. He exhibited in Milan and Paris.
