            Est: $900 - $1,200

Ibram Lassaw gold plated bronze abstract Bosom Sculpture/pendant, 1980s. An Egyptian-born American artist, Lassaw was an early to mid-century pioneer of abstract sculpture. The layered multi-directional openwork gold plated pendant is fashioned of welded bronze rod over galvanized wire, and topped with three biomorphic rings of hammered, shaped, and flattened bronze rod. The gold plated surface is in very good condition with minor wear. Finished with a pendant loop attached to the top back. The artist signature is inscribed "Lassaw" on an attached bar at the center back of the pendant. Measures 3 1/4" square. Approx. 69.8 grams.

Pendant signed Lassaw. Length 16 inches. Egyptian-born American artist Ibram Lassaw was an early to mid-century pioneer of abstract sculpture. He was influenced by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Julio Gonzàlez, the Russian Constructivists, among others, as well as his passions and studies of biology, cosmology and Zen Buddhism. His first solo show debuted at Kootz gallery in New York City in 1951. After that, he exhibited widely until his passing in East Hampton, NY in December of 2003. Signed Ibram Lassaw pendant on necklace. Incised with the artist's signature "Lassaw" verso. By Lassaw estate provenance, "Lot 545 with the four star shapes is bronze and could easily shine like gold - which is how Ibram liked them to be. The signature on lot 545 was etched on copper with acid... This last year I have created a source book of images, which is handy to flip through to search for particular pendants. So in a few minutes this afternoon I discovered an image I scanned from a stereo slide, which is very very small. Among about 20 pendants photographed together I discovered Lot 545 which can now be dated circa 1966. The photo was taken in 1966, the pendant may have been around for a year or so before". From a Westchester, NY estate. Dimensions: pendant measures approx. 4" w x 4.375" h.

Signed Ibram Lassaw pendant on necklace. With etched signature of Lassaw verso. By Lassaw estate provenance, "Lot 544 appears to have several metals - because it is so oxidized its hard to be exact but I would say there is bronze, silicon bronze, and perhaps phosphor bronze and nickel-silver... The only similar pendant I can find is a necklace (with chain) create for Mary Rockefeller in 1952. So it is most likely that 544 was originally sold by Kootz Gallery in the early 50s". From a Westchester, NY estate. Dimensions: pendant measures approx. 4" w x 3.5" h.
