Lisa Larsen was born in Germany and went to New York at the age of 17, in order to become a young apprentice photographer for Vague magazine. She later worked as a freelance photographer for New York Times Magazine, Glamour and further well-known magazines. Between 1950 and 1958, she was active as a press photographer under contract with LIFE magazine. Larsen won numerous awards for her photographs and was named 'Woman Photographer of the Year' by the National Photographers Association in 1953.

Her series of John and Jacky Kennedy's wedding reveals one of the most high-profile American weddings of the 20th century. The present picture is a surprisingly intimate depiction of the married couple surrounded by their groomsmen. The silver gelatin print shows the copyright stamp 'CREDIT TO READ: Lisa Larson LIFE MAGAZINE © 1953 Time Inc.' on the verso. There are further stamps and handwritten notes. The print is in very good condition considering its age; the photo paper reveals light handling marks and a small loss of material at the upper right margin. Kennedy at their wedding banquet John F. Kennedy, the former senator of Massachusetts, married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953, in Newport, Rhode Island. Seven years later, they became the youngest presidential couple that had ever ruled in the United States. Lisa Larsen took the pictures at their wedding banquet for Time Life. The couple seems to be untroubled by the photographer and the photograph has a spontaneous, natural character. The photograph bears verso the copyright stamp by Time Life and a Publishing stamp, also by Time Life, as well as handwritten inscriptions in pencil and a stamp by Agenzia Masi. The photograph is in good condition with slightly bumped corners and edges. The depiction measures 24.1 x 16.5 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 25.4 x 20.5 cm.
