Drawing, pen and black and red ink, grey wash, pencil, 32,4x41,6 cm., signed "La Rocque f 1758.", mounted along upper edge on orig. paper mount. - Trifle dustsoiled in margins; otherwise fine. = Fine and skilful trompe l'oeil, simulating i.a. drawings or engravings of interior views and Dutch village views and a portrait of "Mr. Wagenmaker".

(leaf), signed "La Rocque fecit 1755." - Some (closed) marginal tears; sl. (dust)soiled/ foxed and corner-pinholes in blank margin. = Very fine and skilful trompe l'oeil, simulating 14 prints, mainly (Italian) landscapes and (school of) Van Ostade. Barthélemy de la Rocque was "Hofkupferstecher in Mannheim" and "Zeichenmeister und Kupferstecher in Darmstadt" (Thieme-B.). SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XCIX.
