Harry E. Larimer Indiana, (1881-1958) Two original WWII era political satire cartoon comic ink drawings Harry Larimer was the political cartoonist for the News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, Indiana). In the winter of 1902-03, cases of smallpox spread through the city of Terre Haute, Indiana. A local Republican newspaper, the Terre Haute Daily Tribune, blasted Democratic city leaders for their handling of the crisis, running columns on the front page. One of the Daily Tribune's editorial weapons was the work of its political cartoonist, Harry Larimer. Larimer was born in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1881. He worked for the Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette and the Des Moines News before coming to Terre Haute around 1902, and he would leave Terre Haute for Fort Wayne around 1912. In the winter of 1902/03 Larimer's pen supplied Terre Haute Daily Tribune readers with multiple illustrations decrying the City Council's handling of funding for the Board of Health during the smallpox outbreak.
