He began his career by drawing caricatures for "Le Bavard", a weekly newspaper published by his father. He studied drawing and composition at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montréal, and graphics at the Guilde graphique de Montréal before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force, from 1942 to 1945. Upon his return he continued his studies at Sir George Williams University from 1946 to 1948 and went on to study at the Famous Artists School in New York from 1948 to 1952. Upon his return to Montreal, he began a career as an illustrator in a publicity firm, his works featured in publicity campaigns for the Federal and Provincial governments, as well as for private clients. He was also part of the design team for the Quebec pavilion for Expo 67. In 1972, L'Archevêque was commissioned by the Prudential Insurance company for a painting to commemorate the winning goal of the Canada - Russia World Hockey Series. This work was later adopted by the Royal Canadian Mint for a one-dollar coin. In 1973, L'Archevêque decided to pursue painting full-time and travelled regularly to Europe for inspiration. He held his first solo exhibition in 1973 at the gallery Bernard Desroches, which was followed by many group and solo shows. L'Archevêque's art focuses on rural landscapes depicting the four seasons of Québec, still lifes, portraits and Montréal urban scenes. His works are found in numerous private and business collections in Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland and France.Selected Corporate, Private and Public CollectionsBank of Montreal Banque Nationale du CanadaBell CanadaBombardierBrasserie LabattBritish PetroleumCity of MontrealClaridge CollectionCrédit Foncier de MontréalGovernment of QuebecHoward Smith Paper MillsImascoSelected Exhibitions1992 Galerie Bernard Desroches, Montréal 1984 Centre d'art du Mont-Royal, Montréal 1980 Galerie Bernard Desroches, Montréal Ottawa City HallChâteau Ramesay, Montréal 1978 Galerie Bernard Desroches, Montréal 1976 Galerie Bernard Desroches, Montréal 1975 Koffler Centre of the Arts, Toronto
