Adelaide-Isabelle-Antonine Lapoter French, 1814-1880 Portrait Miniature of a Baby, circa 1850 Signed A Lapoter (lr) Gouache on ivory Oval, 2 9/16 x 2 1/8 inches (6.8 x 5.4 cm) Provenance: The Julio Munos Collection, Barcelona, said to have been acquired in 1923 Earle D. Vandekar, London, purchased 1996 Adelaide Lepoter, 1814-1880, was one of the most important female miniaturists working in the second empire. A student of Mme. de Mirbel and Antoine Chazal, she exhibited at the Salon from 1844-1878. This lovely miniature features an unusual gesture: the baby is shown lifting it's skirt to reveal the navel.
