1830s Voyage Indo China Laplace La Favorite

    Est: $5,000 - $8,000

Atlas from Laplace’s voyage through Indo-China(1830-1832). Cyrille Pierre Theodore Laplace (1793-1875) was a French navigator who travelled around the world on the corvette La Favorite. From Senegal to Ile de Bourbon, then Madras and Yanaon to Singapore. In April 1830 both cholera and dysentery broke out onboard the corvette, so they limped off to Hobart for about one month to recover and obtain supplies. After this they visited Sydney where they stayed for about a month. They then spent 9 days in New Zealand but left quickly because the Brits were getting nervous about French presence in the Pacific. The Brits of course considered that they had a divine right to conquer and occupy this territory. This atlas includes detailed and beautiful maps of Seychelles, Africa; Cochinchina (Gianh River region, Vietnam); Anambas, Indonesia; and Kawa-Kawa River, New Zealand.
