    HENRY VENN LANSDOWN (BRITISH, 1806-1860) St. Mary's Chapel, Queen Square, Bath Watercolour Unframed Lansdown’s watercolours were used to illustrate J.F. Meehan’s book, Famous Houses of Bath and District. St. Mary’s Chapel stood on the South-West corner of Queen Square, Bath. It was designed by John Wood the Elder (1704-1754) in the classical Greek style. The interior contained a lavish stuccoed ceiling by the Franchini Brothers. It cost £2,000 to build and was opened on 25th December 1734. It was demolished by The Midland Railway Company in 1875 to widen the road leading to their station at Green Park. Provenance: A private collection of English and Irish watercolours9½ x 13¼ inches (24 x 34 cm.)
