Sophie Koner, verwitwete Meyer, geb. Schäfer, studierte zunächst bei Duran in Paris und dann bei Max Koner, den sie 1886 heiratete. Sie nahm 1893 bis 1920 an den Großen Berliner Kunstausstellungen teil und erhielt für ihre Werke mehrere Preise, u.a. die Goldmedaille. Die Dargestellte Elfriede "Frieda" Kretschmann-Winckelmann (1870-1939) war eine Berliner Künstlerin, die bei Käthe Kollwitz zur Graphikerin ausgebildet wurde; seit 1904 beschickte sie die Secessions-Ausstellungen in München und Berlin.

Sheet dimensions: 39.4 x 29.5 cm Frame: 50 x 41.5 cm Provenance: Private collection, Baltic states Condition: The sheet is in a good condition showing light staining and overall scattered marks. The frame shows usual signs of wear and age. Sophie Koner (1855-1929) Sophie Koner was a German painter, born 1955 in London, and based in Berlin. Koner began her education under C. Duran in Paris. Later she went to Berlin, where she became a pupil of the Berlin portrait painter Max Koner. They married in 1886. Since the late 1880s the artist sent works to be shown in the exhibitions of the academy of arts and in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. Her oeuvre contains landscapes, genre paintings and portraits, among them primarily images of children. A prominent example is the painting of Viktoria Luise Princess of Prussia. (msc) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
