Archibald Knox Art for Sale at Auction

Landscape painter, b. 1864 - d. 1933

Artist Archibald Knox, born on the Isle of Man in 1864, became an instrumental leader of the Art Nouveau movement at the turn of the 20th century. As a metalware designer, he worked at Liberty & Co., a  renowned giftware company in Britain. For several years he designed handmade silver and pewter pieces. Art experts describe his style as Cymric because of its interlaced curves, flowers, and symmetrical designs. Knox’s Celtic heritage influenced these motifs and innovative forms.

Artist Archibald Knox created pewter and silver vases, candelabra, and clocks, yet he never signed his name to a piece. Liberty did not approve of work that lauded the artist over the company, thus the Archibald Knox pewter pieces remained unsigned. Collectors recognize items such as the Archibald Knox candlesticks only by the nuances of his style. Discover memorable pewter metalware for sale online and at auction to add to your specialty collection.
