    Klumpke, Anna (1856-1942) Rosa Bonheur: Sa Vie Son Oeuvre. Paris: Ernest Flammarion, [1908]. First edition, lavishly illustrated; author's presentation copy, signed and inscribed by Klumpke on half-title to Greta Challen, "avec mes sinciere voeux pour votre bonheur pendant toute votre vie," New York, 1912, with four lines quoted from Lilian Whiting inscribed below in Klumpke's hand; bound in contemporary full calf, original wrappers bound in; with the recipient's married name, Greta Challen Berg, tooled in gilt on the front board; all edges gilt, hand-worked double core endbands in green and white silk; binding rubbed with chipped corners and endcaps; 12 x 8 3/4 in. Klumpke and Bonheur, both painters, met and fell in love in 1895. They lived together, and Bonheur supported Klumpke's artistic career. For her part, Klumpke wrote Bonheur's biography (the present work), and served as her artistic executor. Greta Challen Berg (1881-1961) was an accomplished opera singer and vocal performance instructor based in Florida.
