    Alexa King (American, b.1952) Bronze Sculpture of the Horse Orbetello, Signed and dated '78 and inscribed Orbotello, mounted to a black marble base, 23 1/2" h. 26" w. 11 1/2" d., Note: Alexa King is the most pre-eminent equine sculptor in the world. Her equine and animal sculptures are in many numerous collections and her sculpture of the Kentucky Derby champion of 1976, Barbaro. This life size sculpture sits at the entrance of Churchill Downs in Louisville and is considered to be the finest equine sculpture of a thoroughbred in the world. This sculpture was commissioned by the consignor of her prized horse. Barbaro, and countless other horses live on, forever frozen in time by the crafting hands of Alexa King. Each sculpture tells a story of an animal, whether a living legend or a past beloved companion. When gazing at Alexa's statues and sculptures, time stands still.
