a la mode paper, wood and steel CATALOGUE NOTE Kim Chun Hwan's artworks are reconstructions of printed matters including pages from magazines, catalogs, phone books, and filers. Each piece is first conceived of a specific theme, and then manipulated by the control over the selection of paper colors, and the repressing and finishing methods. The waste pages have been torn, folded, disfigured, treated and then glued together for trimming and repression. His earlier works are more neutral and subtle in tone, while recent works exhibit stronger colors with rougher edges. Works from his recent A La Mode series are massive in surface area and rich in color. Kim Chun-Hwan betstows a new purpose and force of life materials that would have otherwise become useless waste.
