    Est: $1,000 - $2,000

Frederick Kiesler American, 1890-1965 Two Biomorphic Units, designed 1942, for Peggy Guggenheim's Art of This Century Gallery Plywood and linoleum Height of larger 33 inches, width 37 inches, depth 15 inches. Provenance: Lillian Kiesler Bequethed to current owner In 1942 Peggy Guggenheim commissioned Frederick Kiesler to transform a space on West 57th Street in Manhattan into her "Art of This Century" gallery. His progressive ideas and influence from the Surrealist environment lead him to create an interactive space, unifying architecture, object, light and motion. His multifunctional furniture was designed to be used as both chairs and pedestals, and are prime examples of the organic ambiguity encapsulated in most of his constructions. These two examples are copies of the originals, and used in the film Pollock, 2000, directed by and starring Ed Harris. C
