BIOGRAPHY: Michael Mathias Kiefer was a German painter. He was a representative of landscape, hunting, portrait and nude painting (Munich School) and a sculptor. His work includes works in oil, watercolor and drawings. Kilimanjaro was also his motif. His work consists primarily of portraits of people and animals as well as landscape paintings. By no means only local motifs were immortalized. His legacy also includes paintings and drawings that were created during numerous study trips to North and South America, Africa, Scandinavia and the Orient.Parts of his work were presented to the public at major art exhibitions in Munich, Berlin and Dusseldorf, as well as annually at the royal private artists' cooperative of 1860 in Munich.His 40 years of work as an illustrator for all hunting magazines also earned him a lot of admiration and reputation.Michael Mathias Kiefer was a zoologist and artist at the same time. Although the photo age had already arrived at the beginning of his professional career as an animal painter, it could by no means replace the overall composition of the drawn creature in its natural habitat. Michael Mathias Kiefer developed not only as an animal painter in the traditional sense, but also conveyed impressions of the nature of animals in their environment. No hunting painter or artist was able to create dioramas with painted landscapes for exhibitions, museums and zoos like he did.
