    PORTRAIT EINES KARTOGRAFEN Öl auf Eiche, mit Spanplatte unterfüttert. 81 x 64,5 cm. Oben links Inschrift „Aetatis suae 31 / 1602“. In ebonisiertem Holzrahmen. Hüftportrait eines leicht nach rechts gewandten Mannes mit Mühlsteinkragen und schwarzem Gewand. Vor ihm eine Tischecke auf der ein halb gerollter Plan und ein Kompass auf dem seine eine Hand ruht, liegen, während die andere einen Schlüssel hält. Anmerkung: Rechnerisch könnte es sich bei der dargestellten Person um Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571-1638) handeln, von dem allerdings nur druckgrafische Portraits aus späteren Lebensjahren überliefert sind. Nachdem dieser 1600 den veränderlichen Stern P Cygni entdeckt hatte, siedelte er um 1603, wenn unsere These stimmt, schon 1602, nach Amsterdam über. Auch Cornelis Ketel wirkte zu dieser Zeit in Amsterdam und schuf vermutlich dieses psychologisch fein aufgefasste Gemälde. Literatur: Vgl. Johannes Keuning, Marijke Donkersloot-de Vrij, Willem Jansz.
