    Margaret D. H. Keane an American artist and creator of the " big-eyed waifs " Keane is famous for drawing paintings with big eyes. She mainly paints women children or animals in oil or mixed media. This work an oil on mason board depicts one of her " big-eyed" girls wearing a turtle neck garment set against a night street scene in the city with a central light. Provenance: purchased directly from Walter Keane in 1963 at an artist's show in Chicago during the time he claimed to be the artist of the " Big Eyes" paintings. A feature film titled "BIG EYES" was released on December 25 2014 about the life of Margaret & Walter Keane directed by Tim Burton and starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz. Presented in an ebonized and gilt frame. Signed lower left and dated 1957. Includes three books: The World of Keane by Walter Keane; The New Contemporary Art Magazine Hi Fructose and Big Eyes The Film The Art. Dimensions: 18" wide x 32" high - Image only 15" wide x 28.75" high

Keane, American, b. 1927, California, Tennessee, Hawaii Modernist portraiture, sad child and figurative painting, popular culture, 1970s “Japanese Woman in a Kimono” Signed in pencil lower right, edition in pencil lower left HC 12/99, copyright signature and date on image" c MDH Keane 1986 This print shows a woman seated in a rock garden with a gold pond carrying lily pads as the background. There are plants including a cherry blossom, two peacocks and a kitten that is standing with its paws upon the woman’s lap. She is wearing a pink kimono with a brown sash, and her hair is half up. She retains a solemn stare with the viewer, and has the characteristic Keane eyes, which are large, widened and usually black. Margaret Keane has been referenced numerous times in popular culture including a 2009 movie, and her work is held in many international public collections.
