    MASAYOSHI (ACTIVE LATE 19TH CENTURY) A Large and Impressive Pair of Bronze Vases Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th century Cast in bronze, the baluster vases each set on a rockwork base with Shiba Onkō holding a rock over his head as he breaks a hole in the vessel, his companion looks on in surprise as a third boy comes tumbling out in stream of water, the vases decorated in relief with dragons in clouds around the shoulder above three registers of stylized vines and nyoi heads, floral medallions on a ground of chrysanthemum lozenges, and archaistic Chinese beast masks with suspended floral lappets, the foot with stylized waves, the elaborate cover boldly cast with an eagle clutching a struggling snake in its talons on a craggy rock formation, signed on the body in seal form Masayoshi iru (2) 33 3/4in (85.7cm) high
