    Albumen print, laid down on cardboard Russia, about 1870 Andrei Osipovic Karelin (1837-1906) - Russian photographer Annotated in print on the cardboard in Cyrillic (= art album / nature photographs / Nizhny Novgorod / Andrei Karelin) Overall dimensions: 41.7 x 32.1 cm Very good condition Provenance: private collection Stuttgart, Germany Literature: 'The Art of Real Life Photographs' (1990) Karelin is one of the most important early Russian photographers; his genre scenes are sought after in the past years on the auction market This black and white photograph originates from the Russian photographer Andrei Osipovic Karelin (1837-1906) from about 1870. Depicted are a granddaughter and her grandmother in a Russian interior having coffee. The grandmother, with a white bonnet on her head, is grinding coffee. Sunlight is falling into the room from the right. It is an artistically especially beautiful photograph. The photograph is laid down on a cardboard which shows annotations in Cyrillic (= art album / nature photographs / Nizhny Novgorod / Andrei Karelin). The photograph is in very good condition, the cardboard is a bit toned, the corners a minimally bumped. The dimensions of the cardboard are 41.7 x 32.1 cm and the photograph is 22.7 x 16.3 cm in size. Andrei Osipovic Karelin (1837-1906) The Russian photographer Andrei Osipovic Kaerlin graduated in 1864 from the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg. While working as a photographic retoucher, he developed a keen interest in photography. He opened his own studio in Kostroma and later in Nizhny Novgorod. Karelin regarded photography as a new medium of the pictorial arts. His genre compositions reflect the tendencies of the 'peredvizhniki' painters, an art movement of the so-called 'wanderers'. Karelin contributed to the technical development of photography, which were mainly lighting setups. In addition, he published a study on optics. Karelin's works were honored with a number of awards at Russian and European photography exhibitions. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
