Kahrer briefly attended the Strehblow painting school in Vienna and studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Franz Rumpler, between 1893 and 1897. In 1903, he became a member of the Hagenbund. In the same year, he moved to Klosterneuburg, where in 1906 he became a co-founder of the „Verein heimischer Künstler in Klosterneuburg“ (Association of Local Artists in Klosterneuburg). At the association's first exhibition in 1908, Kahrer was represented with 22 pictures. Egon Schiele was also among the visitors. In the same year, Kahrer opened a painting school, but had to close it again after two years. Throughout his life he was continually pursued by material needs. His greatest supporters were the art dealer Heinrich Neumann and Philipp von Schöller. In 1913 and 1914 he studied in Munich. Due to the outbreak of war, he had to return to Klosterneuburg in 1914, where he remained until his death. Arthur Roessler wrote about him in 1928: "Among the painters currently working in Klosterneuburg, Max Kahrer is undoubtedly the most artistically important personality." The Klosterneuburg City Museum dedicated a retrospective to the artist in 1999. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
