Acrylic on canvas Antwerp, 1998 Jus Juchtmans (born 1952) - Belgian artist Signed with the monogram (in ligature) on the overlap; also dated and titled '89. 981118' Overall dimensions: 50 x 40 cm Very good condition Provenance: Private collection, Germany Jus Juchtmans is a famous representative of contemporary monochrome painting in Europe; comparable paintings of the artist fetch up to €5,800 at international auctions Works by Jus Juchtmans are characterized by an 'oscillating' monochrome surface which is however created from numerous fine layers of paint. In this sense, he is not a pure monochromist, because the viewer can always see or at least make out the different applied colors. Inspection from the distance surprisingly reveals the glossy surfaces reflecting the surrounding spaces. The works remind of frosted glasses with multiple facets of images behind. The present work is an impressive example of Jus Juchtmans artistic output. The painting is signed with the monogram (in ligature) on the overlap; it is also titled and dated '89. 981118'. The work is in very good condition. The stretcher measures 50 x 40 cm. Jus Juchtmans (born 1952) Jus Juchtmans was born in Mortsel, Belgium. Between 1972 and 1976, he completed his studies of graphic design and printing at the Academy of Arts in Antwerp, where he still lives and works today. His art represents an important and technically unique position within contemporary monochrome painting in Europe. Since 1997, Juchtmans has been active in solo and group exhibitions in Belgium, Spain, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the USA. Examples of his artistic output belong to public collections (e.g. Osthaus Museum, Hagen, Germany; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego) as well as private collections (e.g. Maximilian and Agathe Weishaupt, Munich, Germany).
