The varnish has been slightly darkened. Tiny craquelé, areas with scuffing due to the frame along the edges and small spots with loss of pigment in the upper part can be seen. The frame shows signs of wear and age such as marks and tears. The dimensions are 42.2 x 55.6 cm and the frame measures 54.6 x 68 cm. Gustav Jourdan (1884-1950) Gustav Jourdan was a painter and artisan of the first half of the 20th century with sphere of activity in the South of Germany. After his education as a painter in his hometown Schwäbisch Gmünd Jourdan went to Stuttgart, where he studied initially at the art academy and later he taught at the royal arts school in Stuttgart. Since 1944 the artist had been living in the Swabian town Hayingen. His oeuvre presents graphic art as well as drafts and décor for the applied arts such as for jewelry, ceramics, wallpapers as well as textiles. Subjects of his graphics are mainly nude figures, landscapes and animal portraits. Corresponding to the spirit of the time the artist was influenced by realism and historism during his education.
