      Feb. 25, 2018

      Painting, Amedee Joullin

      Est: $15,000 - $25,000

Amedee Joullin (American, 1862-1917), After the Battle, 1901, oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right, canvas: 36"h x 50.13"w, overall (with frame): 49.5"h x 63"w. Note: Joullin spent many months in New Mexico and Nevada where he did sketches and paintings of the Indians and was one of the few artists to gain access to their private society. This painting is a very fine example of his Indian series from Nevada. A memorial exhibition was held at the de Young Museum in San Francisco featuring thirty of his canvases of landscapes, still life, and figures, providing a conclusive retrospective of his prolific career, this painting was almost certainly part of that collection.
