A RARE COMBINATION OF THE SIGNATURES OF NAPOLEON AND JOSEPHINE, memorializing the marriage of a member of Josephine's entourage. "Mr. de Monttivault has declared that having received the permission of her Majesty the Empress Josephine for the contracted marriage to Mademoiselle De Monttivault, he requested that the signed notaries take it to the Malmaison Palace for her signature. With this request, the above mentioned notaries, accompanied by Mr. De Monttivault, were effectively transported to the Palace of Malmaison, residence of Her Majesty, admitted to her audience, and Her Majesty, in view of her approval was willing to affix her signature as if on the marriage contract itself, the consignment of which has also been deposited, and to which her Majesty has also given her approval...(M. De Monttivault) requested that the below signed notaries present themselves to His Majesty the Emperor and King for his review of the edict of the marriage contract between M. De Monttivault and Mademoiselle De Monttivault dated the fifteenth of July, eighteen thousand and twelve in order for His majesty the Emperor to give approval to the marriage. Thus, Mr. Noel and his colleagues, in order to satisfy this request, went to the Imperial Palace, were given audience with His Majesty, who reviewed the edict. After his reading of this edict, it was passed at the Imperial Palace, signed by His Majesty, and also M. De Monttivault and the Notaries..." Ironically, Napoleon and Josephine signed this document after Napoleon's divorce from Josephine.
