      Est: $1,000 - $1,500

ISAAC A. JOSEPHI New York, d. 1954 Pastoral scene. Signed lower right "Isaac A. Josephi". This pastel, executed on a Regensburg's Cigar advertisement board, has been done in the Barbizon Style and is similar to some of the works of George Innes. This style evokes the expression of naturalistic tendencies in changing landscapes. Barbizon artists are the precursors to the "plein air painters". Primarily known as one of the "founding fathers of miniatures", Isaac A. Josephi exhibited at the Art Institute in Chicago, the National Academy of Design and the Paris Expo of 1900. He was one of the founders of the American Society of Miniature Painters and studied at the Arts Students League in New York City. Examples of his miniatures are included in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and he was shown at the Spanierman Gallery in New York City. Pastel, 20" x 30". Framed 31" x 41".
