Born in Hayward, CA on March 4, 1893, Helen Jordan had parents who were both school teachers; her father founded Hayward Union High School. In 1894 she moved across the bay to San Francisco where she grew up and graduated from Polytechnic High School. She moved to Los Angeles where she was a pupil of J. Francis Smith, J. E. McBurney, and Theodore Lukits at the School of Art and Design. Jordan then worked as a commercial artist in Los Angeles and made painting excursions to the nearby deserts. In 1943 she married C. B. Rollins and lived in La Crescenta until her return to San Francisco in 1969. The artist died in Livermore, CA on Dec. 27, 1985.
