      GEORGE JOHANSON (Portland, OR/Seattle, 1928-2022) acrylic on canvas, "Gathering - Hockney, Treiman, Schrag, McGarrell, Beckman, Durer, and Three Rembrandts," a painting about mentors. Signed lower left, signed again and titled verso, dated 1979, label attached verso from The Fountain Gallery. Image measures 64" x 68.25" and frame measures 65" x 69.25". Lot includes a pamphlet from a 1976 George Johanson exhibition at the Portland Art Museum and a paper from Johanson describing the people in the painting, which also includes, not listed in the title, himself as an infant and Francis Bacon. Johanson was a pupil of Michele Russo while attending the Portland Museum Art School (now the Portland Northwest College of Art) and taught at the school for 25 years. Provenance: from the Collection of Beverly Ann White.
