SAM JINKS (Melbourne, 1973) "Doghead". Silicone, pigment, resin and hair.

      Est: €30,000 - €40,000

SAM JINKS (Melbourne, 1973) "Doghead". Silicone, pigment, resin and hair. Measurements. 140 x 30 x 60 cm. This sculptural piece 'Doghead' is strikingly realistic, carefully crafted with silicone, pigment, resin and hair to depict a nude standing in a dream-like appearance, with the head of an acutely angled fox. Sam Jinks is an artist living and working in Melbourne, Australia. With a background in film and television work creating effects and acting as a commercial sculptor for 11 years, the last five years he has spent his full time on his personal work, a hyper-realistic sculptural work where elements such as human and animal hair are added. The process for most of his work is very similar. It begins as clay sculptures built along an armature that is then molded and cast in silicone. Once the mold is cleaned then hairs and final color are added. Jinks worked as an illustrator before turning to sculpture. He worked in film special effects. His work was shown at Art Stage Singapore, and at Personal Structures (2013), a collateral event at the 55th Venice Biennale. Jinks' work is held in Australian and international public collections including Kiran Nader Museum of Art, Dehli, India and the Museum of Contemporary International Figurative Sculpture (MEFIC), Portugal, RMIT and McClelland Gallery + Sculpture Park. When Jinks' first solo exhibition, Body in Time, visited regional venues in 2012, the people of Shepparton raised funds to purchase the sculpture Woman and Child for the Shepparton Museum of Art. Jinks' work has recently been exhibited at the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection in Frankfurt, Germany and Hannover, Germany. His Standing Pietà (2014) was exhibited at Art Basel, Hong Kong and Marc Straus in New York. In late 2015, Jinks' work traveled to Daejeong Museum, South Korea.
