Poetry hall by Xu Youmei 畫 painting：112 x 49.5 cm 44⅛ x 19½ in. 詩堂 poetry hall：27.3 x 49.5 cm 10¾ x 19½ in. 高劍父　松花設色紙本　立軸　一九二八年作許友梅題詩堂詩堂：澹逸。劍父與奇峰開嶺南書派之宗，劍父晚年筆氣尤見神妙蒼古，世人多以新派輕之，未免過抑。是圖秀倩絕俗，松花殆有飄飄欲仙之姿，令見者心為之動，而神為之移也。癸未初春，樵叟。款識：削壁松花瘦，拂雲娛古春。前歲郊行斷句。戊辰初春似工佽道盟。劍父。鈐印：「劍父」、「高崙之鈢」、「佛弟」。藏印：「許友梅」、「梅軒藏」、「曾經我囚」。展覽：加拿大，溫哥華美術館，〈水松石山房藏當代中國畫〉，一九八七年六月十九日至八月九日香港，會議展覽中心，〈粵色畫意—梅潔樓藏書畫〉，二○二二年十月三日至八日著錄：〈高劍父的繪畫藝術〉，陳薌普著（臺北市立美術館，一九九一年七月），頁159 〈香港蘇富比二十周年1973-1993〉（香港蘇富比有限公司，兩木出版社，一九九三年），編號691 〈粵色畫意—梅潔樓藏書畫集〉（香港，梅潔樓，二○二二年），頁40-41 來源：許友梅「梅軒」舊藏許氏，廣東澄海人，畢業於師範學校，即於鄉中辦學，後來港創業，經營南北各港業務及航業，歷任潮州八邑商會副會長及會董理事，任內值抗戰軍興，以迄勝利初期，維持會務仍不遺餘力。工吟詠，酷嗜書畫，其「梅軒」藏畫以嶺南作品見著，嘗於思豪酒店展出書畫計二百餘件。藏品多見其印，本幅乃少見親筆題跋者，珍視可知。「水松石山房」舊藏香港蘇富比，二○○三年十月，中國書畫拍賣，編號277 「梅潔樓」藏上款：「工佽」即黎工佽，高劍父奇峰昆仲好友，皆有作品寫贈。註：劍父常以淡墨乾筆寫松姿態，但如本幅松蔓長伸，松花間雜其中，在其作品中甚為稀見。畫面雅淡素潔，祇有松子松花略事點染，色調俱作淺淡，餘者皆出於淨墨。全畫構圖簡約，惟佈局奇險，右上方僅露峭壁一角，傍有疏落松枝引伸而出，騰空垂下，轉折屈曲如游龍舞動，雖寡然數枝卻填補了畫面中央大片空間。枝條細長挺秀卻顯得帶韌力，變為支撐畫面的骨架。松花松針密聚於左下角，細針叢呈放射狀激張，其質感輕柔，與堅硬壁岩成犄角對應。透過凌空跨越畫面的松枝引領視線，觀者自然將視點移置主體松花上。故疏密寬緊，輕重，剛柔之種種對應關係，巧妙地置於同一空間裡，渾然天成，正劍父此作最勝處。

95x43cm Wu Hufan, born in Suzhou, Jiangsu, was the grandson of Wu Dacheng (from the second day of the seventh lunar month in 1894 to August 11, 1968). Originally named Yiyan, with the courtesy name Qianjun, later renamed Wan, with the courtesy name Dongzhuang, also known as Qian, with the courtesy name Chou Yan and the courtesy name Qian'an. The calligraphy and painting were signed under the name Hufan. Wu Hufan was influenced by family education and had a passion for art. At the age of 13, he started learning painting from the ¡®Four WANG¡¯ and Dong Qichang, and then went on to explore various schools of thought in the Five Dynasties, Two Song Dynasties, and Yuan and Ming Dynasties. He carefully observes the historical landmarks in his family's collection and travels through famous mountains and rivers, combining the teachings of the ancients with the teachings of nature, thus forming a unique artistic style that is meticulous, rich, clear, and clear. His calligraphy combines the ¡®Slender Gold¡¯ (shoujinti) of Mi Fu and Zhao Ji of Song Huizong, and combines his own interests to form a unique style with unique characteristics, thus becoming one of the most famous calligraphers, painters, and connoisseurs in Shanghai. Zhao Shuru, Wu Beiqiu, and Feng Chaoran are known as the ¡®Four Great Masters of the Sea¡¯. Also known as ¡®Three Wu and One Feng¡¯ together with Wu Zishen, Wu Beiqiu, and Feng Chaoran. In the 1930s, the Chinese painting scene was known as the ¡®Southern Wu (Hufan) and Northern Zhang¡¯ (Daqian). Among the two and a half painters that Da Qian admired throughout his life, the first one was Wu Hufan. Wu Hufan maintained a deep friendship with many painters throughout his life, both as a teacher and a friend. This auction is a witness to their friendship.

GAO JIANFU (1879–1951): ‘MAJESTIC EAGLE ON CLIFF’ China, dated 1917. Ink, watercolors, and gouache on silk. Mounted as a hanging scroll, on a silk brocade coated paper frame. Finely painted with an eagle perched on a cliff, its talons clasped sharply around the outpost, keeping its footing, as it attentively surveys the area nearby. Inscription: To the top-right, inscribed ‘In June of the 5th year of the Republic period, Gao Lun painted in Japanese capital’. One seal ‘Gao Jianfu’. Another seal at the bottom right corner. Provenance: French trade. Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few stains, and very few touch-ups. The mounting with traces of age and wear. Dimensions: Image size 113.5 x 35.5 cm, Size incl. mounting 196 x 48 cm Gao Jianfu (1879–1951), a native of Guangzhou, was credited for leading the Lingnan (Canton) School’s effort to modernize Chinese traditional painting as a ‘new national painting.’ Along with his brother Gao Qifeng and friend Chen Shuren, they are known as the Three Masters of the Lingnan School. Gao Jianfu learned painting with Ju Lian (1828-1904) in his early years before he went to Japan, where he was influenced by the Nihonga movement that synthesized Western realism—natural light and luminous colors—with Eastern materials, techniques, and subject matter. This new hybrid art included the use of perspective, and other elements of Western painting. Jianfu once wrote: ‘I think we should not only take in elements of Western painting. If there are good points in Indian painting, Egyptian painting, Persian painting, or masterpieces of other countries, we should embrace all of them too, as nourishment for Chinese painting.’ While in Japan and after his return, he was involved in Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary movement. After Sun Yat-sen passed away, Gao Jianfu devoted himself to the modernization of Chinese painting and art education.
