Elizabeth Galbraith Jewell Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1874 - d. 1956

Elizabeth Galbraith Jewell was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. She became an impressionist landscape painter who began seriously pursuing her art interests after her children had grown. She studied at Boston University in 1898 under Phillip L. Hale, Susan Ricker Knox, Laura Coombs Hill, and George L. Noyes, between 1916-1923. Additionally she studied under Charles Woodbury at the the Ogunquit School, and Frank Leslie. Her work was exhibited at the Addison Gallery of American Art, Andover, MA; the Brick Store Museum, Kennebunk, ME; and was part of the exhibition titled "Charles H. Woodbury & His Students" at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art in 1998. Other exhibition venues include David Findlay, Jr. Fine Art Galleries in New York City and the Vose Gallery in Boston. She was a member of the Merrimack Valley Art Association. Jewell painted in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Ogunquit and Monhegan, Maine. She was a teacher at Lawrence High School, in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
