In very good condition Erläuterungen / Comments Alfred Jensen war ein grosser Theoretiker seiner Zeit, was sich auch in seinen Bildern niederschlug. Wieland Schmied schrieb dazu: "Die Zahl der Ordnungssysteme, in die sich Alfred Jensen versenkt hat, ist scheinbar unbegrenzt: die Kalender der Maya und der Inka und die Baupläne der mexikanischen und ägyptischen Pyramiden, indianische und chinesische Zahlensysteme, Schriften, Symbole und Hieroglyphen, die Regel des Goldenen Schnitts, die Lehren der Pythagoräer und der Orphiker, die Zeichen und Häuser des Tierkreises, das delphische Orakel und die Weissagungen des I Ging, Leonardo da Vincis Schriften und Goethes Farbenlehre". Vorliegend greift Jensen das Zusammenspiel von geraden und ungeraden Zahlen auf und transponiert dieses farblich und geometrisch auf die Leinwand. Alfred Jensen was a great theorist of his time, which was also reflected in his paintings. Wieland Schmied wrote: "The number of systems of order in which Alfred Jensen immersed himself is seemingly unlimited: the calendars of the Maya and the Incas and the blueprints of the Mexican and Egyptian pyramids, Indian and Chinese number systems, scripts, symbols and hieroglyphics, the rule of the golden ratio, the teachings of the Pythagoreans and the Orphics, the signs and houses of the zodiac, the Delphic oracle and the prophecies of the I Ching, Leonardo da Vinci's writings and Goethe's theory of colours." In this work, Jensen takes up the interplay of even and odd numbers and transposes it onto the canvas in terms of colour and geometry. He studied in San Diego in 1925-26, then at the Munich Academy with H. Hoffmann and in Paris. In 1929 he returned to the U.S. and taught, most recently at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore. His artistic career began with sculptures and figurative painting before he found his specific form of expression with mathematically based color field painting that drew on the theories of Goethe. The artist, who was polyglot from the beginning, participated in numerous international exhibitions. He also had solo exhibitions at the Guggenheim in New York and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among others, and was also represented at the most important group exhibitions, including repeatedly at Documenta.
