Das Motiv des Gemäldes hängt unmittelbar dem vielfigurigen Hauptwerk 'Sie alle folgen dem Stern' (Düsseldorf, Stiftung Museum Kunstpalast, entstanden 1902) zusammen, auf dem sich diese Figurengruppe in leichter Variation wiederfinden lässt.
