Janesch inscribed on passe-partout Diskuswerfer ESTIMATE °€ 600 - 800 STARTING PRICE °€ 600 From 1904 to 1912, the Austrian portrait and genre painter Albert Janesch studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts; his teachers were Siegmund L'Allemand and Franz Rumpler. In October 1915 he was accepted as a war painter into the k. u. k. Kriegspressequartier (Imperial and Royal War Press Office). He worked in Belgrade, then Trieste and, until autumn 1916, on various sections of the Isonzo Front. From December 1917 to June 1918, he was on the Turkish front. In 1916, Janesch received first prize in the war memorial competition. During the Second World War, Janesch was again deployed as a war painter, working on the south and west coasts of France, in Russia and Greece. After the war, he was commissioned to decorate the“Iron Hall” of the newly built artillery hall of Heeresgeschichtliches Museum (Military History Museum): thus, in 1952/53, he executed the fresco “The Artillery of Emperor Maximilian I.”, based on a painting by Jörg Kölderers. On the left between the bushes sits a small cottage. The crisp blue sky is speckled with white clouds. The foreground is defined by nuanced shades of green, which Janesch used to paint the trees and bushes with loose dabs of color. Here the Austrian painter tried to capture an impression of this beautiful summer day. The painting is signed and dated lower right ‘Albert / Janesch / 1933’. There is an old exhibition label from 1934 and a handwritten note attached to the verso. The work is in good condition. There are some small, barely noticeable nail holes along the edges. On the upper right there is a horizontal crack in the panel (approx. 45 mm). The frame is a little chipped. The framed work measures 54.5 x 65 cm, the work measures 43.5 x 55 cm. Albert Janesch (1889-1973) Albert Janesch was born in Vienna in 1889. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts under Siegmund L'Allemand and Franz Rumpler from 1904 to 1912. During the First and Second World War Janesch worked as a war painter. In the 1950s he was commissioned to conceive a fresco for the Heeresgeschichtliches Museum in Vienna.
