George Wharton James (1858-1923) born in England he emigrated to the United States as a young man and became a Methodist Minister serving in parishes in Nevada and Southern California. There he began his career as a journalist, writer and photographer. The author of over 40 books he was part of the Pasadena Arroyo Culture though he feuded with Charles Lummis. He published many photographs of the Indians and landscape of the Southwest. He was rebuked by the Hopi for taking unauthorized photographs in the Kivas.
