Art James Menchego "Native Spirit" Watercolor on Paper. ART JAMES MENCHEGO was born on the Santa Ana Pueblo in New Mexico where he has lived his entire life. Like many Native Americans, he learned the "old ways" from his grandmother who spoke no English. He learned as a child that the animals and birds with whom we share this land have powers. From early childhood, Art began to sketch and draw so that he could record and share his experiences with others. In choosing subject matter, Art leans naturally toward the alliance between man and beast. His strong Indian figures of great dignity are allowed to draw from the powers of the eagle, bear, or puma which many times joins them on the canvas. Man and beast, each lending dignity and courage, and each deriving the same from the other. Art is an accomplished artist in pencil, charcoal, oil, acrylic, pastels, and watercolor. An indication of his skill is evidenced by the many awards Art has received. Art has been a consistent winning of awards for his work since he made his commitment to art as a full time profession in 1980. The name given him at birth is "Ka-Whe-Tewa", which means "where there is snow". a British statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1902 to 1905, as Foreign Secretary in the Lloyd George ministry, and issuer of the Balfour Declaration in 1917, signed letter and signed photograph, letter typed on 4. Carlton Gardens, Pall Mall letterhead and dated Feb. 20, 1923, addressed to a 'Mr. Hendrick' who apparently requested a photograph, the letter references 'the admirable work which you have performed as Mr. Page's biographer' (ostensibly a letter to Mr. Burton J. Hendrick who was the biographer for Mr. Walter H. Page, an American journalist, publisher, and diplomat, Hendrick was awarded the 1923 Pulitzer Prize for this biography), letter signed in black 'Balfour', the Vandyk London photo reads 'With Kindest Regards, Balfour', framed together, note sight 7.5x5.5in., overall famed 22x12in.

DELUXE EDITION, limited to 520 copies, signed by Rackham, and this one finely bound by Asprey, incorporating an Irish motif. A lively collection of ten Irish folk tales retold by the celebrated author of The Crock of Gold (1912). The artist drew on Celtic folk tradition for his motifs, costumes and settings.
