      A CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL SIGNED ISMA'IL JALAYIR, QAJAR IRAN, CIRCA 1860 Gouache on buff paper, the panel with a bold nasta'liq verse painted in black with white floral borders, the calligraphy on a ground with densely worked forest with tall trees inhabited by small birds, signed along the bottom edge kamtarin bandah-ye astan Isma'il Jalayir, a later owner's stamp in the lower right hand corner, the folio creased, small repairs to the lower corners, laid down between gold and polychrome rules and minor coloured borders on buff card Text panel 13 5/8 x 9in. (34.6 x 22.7cm.); folio 18 3/8 x 14 3/8in. (46.7 x 36.6cm.)

      A CALLIGRAPHIC PANEL SIGNED BY ISMA'IL JALAYIR, QAJAR IRAN, CIRCA 1860 Gouache on buff card, comprising a Persian couplet written in large nasta'liq in dark grey, the interiors of the letters filled with closely drawn floral and avian motifs, further inscription in smaller white nasta'liq and naskh, the remaining space around the inscription filled with a dense design of flowers and birds in white and grey with occasional flowerheads in pink and green, folio slightly trimmed, mounted, framed and glazed 17½ x 25 5/8in. (44.3 x 65.2cm.)
